Originally from the New Orleans, Louisiana area, DUKE has been active in the Los Angeles Rhythm and Blues scene for nearly two decades. His career started at Saint Mark Baptist Church in Clayton, Louisiana where he sang in the junior choir. DUKE'S Mother and Grandmother encouraged his singing and he was inspired by the legendary Sam Cooke. For many years DUKE was a member of the popular local gospel group The Sensational Sounds of Joy.
He has performed as a star entertainer at the finest local blues and R&B venues, including B.B. King's and Harvelle's. DUKE has also been a featured entertainer in shows with Bobby "Blue" Bland, Deacon Jones and local blues legend J.J. "Bad Boy" Jones. He was a regular performer in the famed Central avenue blues scene, having appeared at Smokey Wilson's Pioneer Club, The Steak House, Babe and Ricky's Inn, The Desert Inn Palmdale and many other fine Southern California clubs. Duke is a popular well known entertainer in the Los Angeles Blues community. The Mayflower Ballroon in Inglewood, California is the site for the Debut of his first (but not last) CD "Blues My Way" with a blues dance and show featuring songs from the CD. Known in local entertainment circles as "The Duke" his rich, soulful vocal style is uniquely his own and is gumbo mix of R&B, New Orleans, Texas and Chicago style blues. Whether singing as a solo act or in a group Duke is a master showman, interacting with his audience and encouraging their enthusiastic response to his dynamic style.
