At the beginning I thought "Hot Blues" would consist of simple songs that anyone could set'in and jam along with, at least that was the main objective for the CD. But like on other CDs, I would find these licks that I liked to play, and they would eventually become the songs. Not that they are hard songs to play but I would sacrifice a little structure for the things I loved. Like the song "Cherrie Pie", there is nothing even about it, except maybe the 9 min jam at the end. But as far as the verses, chorus and bridge go, it's a little hard to tell where one starts and another begins. I guess that's my writing style, a little abstract! I will always sacrifice structure for feeling.
The CD took a year to do. There where 4 musicians involved in the creation of "Hot Blues" but not all takes where used on the CD. A computer crash rendered a song titled "Whispers" unmixable. So it's position on the song list was taken by a song that I wrote in 1999 titled; "Sun Smiles", which turned out to be a much better song for the slot.
The band consists of "Frank Kriege" from Austin Tx, on drums. Frank's a great drummer! I heard Frank play at "Big Dave's Damn Saloon", here in Austin one night and we started talking. I liked his playing and thought he was a cool guy to talk to. I gave him a copy of my CD "Fountain of Blues" and we later agreed to record. So I used Frank exclusively on the "Hot Blues" CD. I did have help on one of the songs from players in other states, who I'm sure will be on the play list for any future CDs. Jake Holmes from Michigan and Robert Bigfoot from California. They helped with bass and drum samples and ideas for another song on the CD titled "Pretty Baby Sexy Baby". In fact the only reason they weren't recorded was a timing thing, the release date had come and gone and there where hight tech issues as well. And then we have yours truly doing vocals, bass, and guitars. Hope that you like "Hot Blues" as much as I do!
