Again a new CD of The Little Boogie Boy Bluesband and this time together with their long time friend and source of musical inspiration, Nick Holt. As bassplayer of the legendary Chicago bluesband, The Teardrops, and brother of Magic Slim, Nick met Hein in 1991 while the band was touring Europe. Needless to say, Magic Slim and the Teardrops’ real deal blues has been a major influence on these young musicians ever since.

When Monique and Hein went to visit Chicago, it was Nick who took them unders his wings and let them sit in with The Teardrops. It was during this visit that Teardrops guitarist John Primer gave Hein the name ‘Little Boogie Boy’. The Teardrops were so impressed with the young musicians that plans for future tours were discussed.

In 2002, these discussions turned reality and Nick began his first European tour with the Little Boogie Boy Bluesband. This was a big opportunity for the young players, as well as a change for Nick to express his own shade of deep, soul-drenched blues as a lead singer, something he had always dreamed of. The tour was a great experience with so much succes that this partnership has continued on to do several tours in both Europe and the U.S.

The recording for this CD were made during Nick’s month-long 2003 European tour. The musicians used their time between gigs to work on new songs. They made arrangements of some of Nick’s favorite soulsongs like ‘I’m a tellin’ you’ and wrote new material, as well. Compositions like ‘The handyman’ and the threatening ‘Hey, Little Boogie Boy’ were written by Nick in a spare moment. Hein then responded to the bluesman’s threat with his own ‘Nick’s mad at me’.

When these artists are not touring together they don’t sit still. The Little Boogie Boy can be seen and heard in both Dutch, Belgium and German bluesclubs and on -festivals, with his own three-piece band. In the U.S. Nick Holt has his steady backing up band ‘The Bluesmessengers’ with Ryan Larsen on drums, Jake Wiese on bass and Joey Manthy on guitar.
