Born in tiny Emerson, Arkansas in March of 1943, Tom "The Blues Man" Hunter lived and worked on a farm while attending elementary school in McNeil Arkansas. The family moved to Beaumont, Texas in 1951 where John Hunter, Sr., my father went to work at a local box factory and played Muddy Waters style guitar in his spare time---for self recreation only. He never played professionally. I would steal into his room and plunk around on his guitar after he would lay it down and step out of the house to go hang out with his drinking buddies. One day I broke one of the guitar strings and all hell broke loose along with the guitar string. My father did not like anyone "foolin' 'round" with his guitar so I had to pay for the string with several licks across my rear end with a razor strop from Daddy. Anyway, in spite of everything for and against my learning to pick the guitar I think I did alright. I played with several different local bands in Beaumont including the legendary Barbara Lynn of "You'll Lose A Good Thing" fame. I have traveled abroad playing and singing the blues with the most recent fest being the "Blues & Bats" fest in Round Rock, TX.. This fest was in honor of the baseball veterans of the old Negro League who have nothing to show for their years in the professional leagues. However, the highlight of my life was the actual recording of this CD with the legendary Double Trouble rhythm section. I always had great admiration and respect for the amazing Stevie Ray Vaughn. And getting to work in the studio with and record with the guys who recorded and traveled with him was a thrill of a lifetime. It was also a great experience to get the opportunity to record this CD with my brother Long John Hunter. Long John has been in this business for many, many years and has recorded on several different record labels including the famous Alligator Records label of Chicago. As of this writing he and I are days away from flying to play the world famous Blues Estafette in Utrecht, Holland and to continue on tour through Spain and Portugal before returning to the United States. This CD "One Foot In Texas" has been receiving excellent revues from the major blues publications such as Blues Revue and Living Blues magazines.
