Composer's notes: One of my goals as a composer and performer is to creatively construct new boundaries in order to expand the realm of musical knowledge and perception. Through explorations in new tonalities, meter, cadence and improvisation, these pieces aim to portray these ideals with an artful, emotive and intellectual approach to composition and piano performance. These pieces were performed in 2001 and composed in previous years spanning from age 15 through 23. Background information: This music was influenced and inspired by the impressionistic concepts of Debussy as well as the rhythmic inflections, polytonality and atonality of Morton Feldman and Alberto Ginastera. Additionally, this album includes improvisational techniques which were inspired through studies of jazz and third stream composition. All pieces were recorded live, without the use of editing or making additional modifications to the original performances.
