David Chidsey is a guitarist/composer/educator with a broad vision of musical concepts, ideas, and teaching philosophies. He first picked up the guitar at the age of 11 after having taken piano and voice lessons as a child.
At the age of 18 David was involved in a traumatic car accident that crushed his left hand and nearly ended his instrumental ambitions. Determined to succeed, David rehabilitated his hand and entered a college music program at the Lawrence University Conservatory in Appleton WI where he studied classical guitar performance with Kevin Gallagher. After graduating from the conservatory with honors, David moved to Madison WI, where he received a master's degree while studying with Javier Calderon as a graduate school fellow and project assistant. After completing his master's, David felt it was time to make a change in order to further his music and teaching career. After being accepted in the Spring of 2006 to Columbia University's Graduate School of Education, David will be making the move to New York City in the Fall to begin studying college music pedagogy. David has participated in many prestigious music programs including the Aspen Summer Music School, where he studied with the famed Sharon Isbin of the Juilliard School, and in Vienna, Austria, as well as the Stetson International Guitar Workshop, National Guitar Summer Workshop, and Guitare Lachine. David has participated in masterclasses with Judicael Perroy, Oscar Ghigllia, LAGQ, Antigoni Goni, Jason Vieaux, Lilly Afshar, Andrew Zohn and more. David has recently organized a scholarship intended to help socio-economically disadvantaged students gain private music instruction. David has also recently performed for the Gunther Schuller Artist-in Residence concert series at UW-Madison as the featured performer for two of Mr. Schuller's Compositions (Variations on a theme of John Lewis and Abstraction). While living and studying in Europe, David was able to perform in such world-class venues as Palais Corbelli and Karntnerstrasse, Vienna, La Maroquinerie, Paris, and Las Ramblas, Barcelona. David was also able to study with world class guitar pedagogues Zoran Dukic, and Brigitta Soos while studying abroad in a joint program with the Wiener Konservatorium. David has performed in many high profile competitions and master classes around the world. Check out the artist's website: http://www.davidchidsey.com Track List: 1. Chaconne BWV 1004 2. Koyunbaba 3.
