This acoustic live piano performance explores three different avenues of personal expression and composition: free improvisation (in accorance with pre-determined key centers, musical textures and road-map), jazz piano honoring the spirit of first, Bill Evans and then Thelonius Monk. And finally, through-composed (classical-like) pieces played note for note(although the music is contemporray!).Pianist/composer, Fredric Zimmerman, has been exploring methods of both performing and teaching free improvisation for years. The first 26 tracks of this album (both the score in the insert, as well as the performance)present Zimmerman's techniques which are layed out in more detail in his yet-to-be-published book titled, "Speaking Music." enjoy...fz February 2005 Track List: 1. focus: 1 sharp 2. focus: 3 sharps 3. focus: 5 sharps 4. focus: atonal 5. focus: 5 flats 6. focus: 3 flats 7. focus: 1 flat 8. focus: atonal 9. focus: 4 sharps 10. focus: atonal 11. focus: 2 sharps 12. focus: no sharps, no flats 13. right hand: 2 flats. left hand: 1 sharp 14. right hand: 4 flats, left hand: 1 flat 15. focus: right hand, 6 flats 16. focus: left hand, 1 sharp 17. focus: interval in each hand, 1 flat 18. intervals left hand, single notes right hand: 3 flats 19. intervals right hand, single notes: 5 flats 20. single notes, right hand, 5 sharps, intervals, left hand, 2 shar 21. focus: thirds 22. focus: 7ths 23. focus: 5ths 24. focus: 3 sharps 25. 1 sharp: choral 26. 1 flat: figuration 27. portrait of Bill Evans 28. portrait of Thelonius Monk 29. interval explorations: 2nds 30. interval explorations: 3rds 31. interval explorations: 4ths 32. intervals explorations: 5ths 33. interval explorations: octaves 34. prelude: June 1994 35. prelude: August 1994 36. prelude: September 1994 37. harmonic sketch: May 1994 38. harmonic sketch: May Suggested CDs:Other Genres:
