Inspired by the historical photographs and poetry within the Wenatchee Valley Museum’s exhibit, River of Memory: The Everlasting Columbia, Emmy award winning composer Dr. Lynette Westendorf has created a companion soundtrack as a tribute to one of the great rivers of the world.Musicians: Tim Brooks-Native American flute; Mike Conrad-vibes, marimba and percussion; Kara Hunnicutt-cello; Tanya Lawson-violin; Lynette Westendorf-piano, composer, arranger and producer. Poets: Linda Andrews, Gloria Bird, Peter Christensen, Jack Johnson, Daniel Lamberton, William D. Layman, Tim McNulty, Eileen Delehanty Pearkes, Lynn Rigney Schott, Derek Sheffield, William Stafford, Kim Stafford, David Wagoner, and Elizabeth Woody. The exhibit will be at the Wenatchee Valley Museum and Cultural Center in Wenatchee, Washington through December, 2006. Thereafter it will travel to Tacoma and Spokane, Washington; Pendleton, Oregon; and Nelson and Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The exhibit includes historic photography of the Columbia River before the era of the dams, Lynette Westendorf’s soundtrack as accompanying music and poetry, lifesize paintings on silk of the river’s indigenous fish species, maps and narrative information. A companion book by guest curator William D. Layman has been published by the University of Washington Press and the University of British Columbia Press.
