Organist & choir master, the late Alan Spence is the dedicatee and the subject of a piano elegy by Allworth, who also offers a major 22 minute work "Arias & Interludes"(1984) written for mandolin & string trio - a series of interlinked miniatures written using 12-tone technique. Piano Concerto Op. 135 (1984) by Gross is a substantial work in 4 movements, dedicated to and performed by pianist Sally Mays with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra conducted by Patrick Thomas, who also play Brumby's popular orchestral piece "Phoenix & The Turtle" (1974).
