Neal Berntsen
Neal Berntsen of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and Pittsburgh Symphony Brass is equally at home in any musical setting. Whether performing with such major orchestras as Pittsburgh, Chicago, or Boston; playing chamber music with Pittsburgh Symphony Brass or Asbury Brass of Chicago; working in commercial settings in the studio or backing contemporary artists, Mr. Berntsen is one of today's leading trumpet players. Berntsen has performed throughout the world with many of our eminent conductors, and served as Principal Trumpet of the Bamberg Symfoniker in Germany and the Ravinia Festival Orchestra in Chicago. Reviewing Berntsen's 2005 performance of Copland's "Quiet City," with the Pittsburgh Symphony, the Pittsburgh Post Gazette called Mr. Berntsen "simply wonderful." The Pittsburgh Tribune Review called that same performance "a highlight of the season." Fanfare Magazine writes that Mr. Berntsen's playing is "not only expert, but musical...quite irresistible on every count." As an educator, Mr. Berntsen is on the faculties of Duquesne University and Carnegie Mellon University. He has presented master classes and recitals around the world.
