The members of the Philadelphia Classical Guitar Trio, Marisol Rampolla, Michael Simmons and Thomas Smith, seek to present a variety of music for the classical guitar in an ensemble setting. Through the existing repertoire, their arrangements and original compositions, the Trio offers audiences an eclectic musical experience. The Trio's members hold degrees from Temple University and the University of the Arts where each member studied with Peter Segal.

They have been selected for inclusion on the Pennsylvania Performing Arts on Tour 2003 Artist Roster. In the Philadelphia area the Trio has presented concerts for the Latin American Guild for the Arts, Matinee Musical Club, Asociaci-n Músicos de Latinoamericanos, and the Philadelphia Classical Guitar Society. Recent tours have taken them to Huntington and Jamestown, New York, Morristown, New Jersey and Swiftwater, Pennsylvania. They have appeared on television's "Philly Live!" and "Puerto Rican Panorama" and performed at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts Opening Celebration. Through the Appel Farm Center for the Arts, the Trio presented a residency series of assemblies aimed at introducing Southern New Jersey public school students to the classical guitar. Abroad, they were the featured performers for the 1999 Festival Internacional de Guitarra de Puerto Rico and for the Third Encuentro Internacional de Guitarra Panamá 1999. The Trio released their debut CD in the Spring of 2000 featuring music by Vivaldi, Fauré, William Grant Still and others.

Born in Puerto Rico, Marisol Rampolla has studied in Spain with José Tomás and David Russell. She currently teaches at the Settlement School of Music, Ancillae Assumpta Academy and Community College of Philadelphia.

Michael Simmons is an active solo guitarist and performs regularly with soprano Lizette Casals and flautist Thomas Meany. He currently teaches at the Shipley School in Bryn Mawr, PA the Woodlynde School in Strafford, PA.

Thomas Smith's arrangements of William Grant Still's "Here's One" and "Danzas de Panamá" have been published by the Theodore Presser Company and William Grant Still Music, respectively.
