Scott Sanchez’s first memories of being interested in the guitar date from when, as a child of four or five years old, he would strum the open strings of his mother’s guitar. He was often curious about these six strings, and at the age of ten, his elder brother Ken began giving Scott guitar lessons. Within a few months, his maternal grandmother, Marion Blue, bought him his first guitar and enrolled him in guitar lessons at a local music store in Colorado Springs. When he was fourteen years old he became curious about the classical guitar, and he would often go to the local library and check out Andrés Segovia, John Williams and Pepe Romero record albums. At the age of seventeen he began classical guitar lessons with Dr. Mark Switzer at Florida Southern College. During two consecutive summers, beginning in the summer after his high school graduation, Scott studied with Pepe Romero at the annual University of Tampa, Pepe Romero Masterclass.

Scott Sanchez earned his Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Denver as a student of the Cuban classical guitarist, Ricardo Iznaola. He graduated with a Master of Music degree from Yale University where he was a student of the American classical guitarist, Benjamin Verdery. As a student, he also performed in masterclasses for renowned guitarists including Eliot Fisk, David Russell and Scott Tennant.

Mr. Sanchez has performed at such places as King’s Chapel, Boston; St. Bride’s Church, London; and the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center. He has taught at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut and Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut. Currently, he teaches at Franklin Pierce College in Rindge, New Hampshire.
