His latest album project “REACH OUT†is a culmination of Steph’s life’s work, his love for songs that inspire others, as well as his strong personal values about belief in oneself and reaching out for things beyond one’s imagination. “I wanted to make a CD that would be uplifting and positive,†he says. “I recorded songs that offer a message of hope and clarity … each song was selected with that in mind. I hope this CD will somehow reach inside the heart and help people in someway make a changeâ€.
Among a variety of self-written original songs, the album also includes classics from Rogers and Hammerstein, Leonard Bernstein, Stephen Sondheim and Puccini that he recreates with his own flair and original music composition. “We arranged these timeless tracks with a fresh and a new life,†he says.
The title song “Reach Out†is a song that Steph co-wrote and will be an official theme Song for The American Red Cross. “It is important to believe in your dreams... to believe in your God given abilities and that you are here to make a difference in any way you can. This is what I wanted to say on this albumâ€. Once hearing the lyrics, listeners know that this is what he has achieved.
Steph wrote and co-wrote five original songs on the album and even plays an original composition on piano in the song “Journeyâ€. He co-produced the album along with a variety of industry Greats. The album was mixed by Eric Schilling (14 time Grammy winner), co-produced by Joe Hogue (two time Grammy winner, Emmy and Dove Award winner), and arranged, and co-produced by Michael B Cochran. Others involved in the project were Gilles Godard, Joe Zimmardo.
"When you are in the middle of creating, it's like you are in search for the truth. In order to do that, you must be true to yourself. You have to let out what's in your soul,†Steph says. “When I write a song, I already have an image in my head of what the final product should sound likeâ€.
Industry Greats recognize his ability. Jose Molina, conductor for Luciano Pavarotti states: “I must say Steph Carse possesses a beautiful voice and unusually interesting approach to standard operatic arias in a fresh and spontaneous manner. His latest CD is the result of his outstanding talent, hard work and collaboration with brilliant arrangers and producers." Eric Schilling says: "Steph's voice and music convey a great passion for his art. Working with him has been a special experience for me.â€
There is no question how Steph reached his self-realization with the current album project. He has already achieved a number of key milestones. He was first recorded at the tender age of three years old. “You cannot deny the true source of your existence, it's impossible… Being human for me, it’s music. This is what makes me come alive,†he says. Through his young life, he learned to sing in four different languages: English, French, Spanish, and Italian.
Steph has sold over four hundred thousand records and over 33,000 videos in Canada. He was nominated for the highest musical award in Canada, a JUNO, in the category of Best Male Vocalist and has been featured on the front pages of countless French Canadian magazines and newspapers. Steph has received over 80,000 pieces of fan mail.
In 1999 Steph donated a song for the Special Olympics on an album entitled "Holiday Heroes." The album also featured artists such as Alan Jackson, Donna Summer, Brooks & Dunn and Kevin Bacon. Steph's song, which he wrote and co-produced, was the lead song on the album, which went gold in Canada.
Most recently, Steph has been asked to be a part of the number one rated TV show in Quebec. The show is called "Des Gens Pas Ordinaires" (extraordinary people) and will air weekly for the fall of 2005. Keeping busy in the studio, Steph also recorded tracks with producers such as Rico Lumpkins, known for his work with TLC, Joe-Z (Making The Band) and Chuck Howard, widely known for producing 98 gold records, including "How Do I Live" by LeAnn Rimes' (the longest running single in Billboard history).
This past year, Steph performed 36 shows at The Stardust in Las Vegas and received a five-star review for his performance in The Las Vegas Sun.
Steph reiterates: “I truly believe that the world is a great place and that life is an amazing gift, and that we ought to use our time and abilities for the benefit of others. If you believe in the idea or concept "that everything you do comes back to you", you want to send good and positive messages out there. What you say and what you think is the reflection of who you areâ€.
