Great Organs of Worcester is made possible by a grant from the George F. and Sybil H. Fuller Foundation. By fully funding the project, the Fuller Foundation has made it possible for all proceeds from sales of the CD to benefit the Scholarship Fund of the Worcester Chapter American Guild of Organists.
Not only does the two-disc compilation capture the sounds of the many different styles of instruments to which Worcester is home, it is also a wonderful record of the musical life of the community for the past 25 years. In addition to the performances recorded especially for this project, many recordings of live performances from the extensive archives of Dr. Charles A. Paquette have been included. Frank Corbin, current Dean of the Chapter and College Organist at Assumption College spearheaded the project.
The Chapter is indeed extremely grateful to Dr. Paquette, who has donated his services free of charge to engineer, record and compile this extraordinary collection. Many thanks are also due Joseph Chilorio who engineered and provided the archival recordings of the Worcester Memorial Auditorium and Mechanics Hall organs.
The disc, containing over two and one half hours of music is as beautiful visually as it is aurally. Multi-talented Chapter member, Will Sherwood, Director of Music at First Unitarian Church, designed the graphics and program booklet, featuring his stunning photography of the Mechanics Hall organ façade for the cover.
The Worcester Chapter AGO owes a huge thank you to all the artists who donated their time and talents in bringing this project to fruition. Not only is this a recording of great music on great instruments, it is an historic civic document of which the entire city of Worcester can be proud.
