Syrinx is based on the Greek myth of Syrinx and Pan. Frightened, the nymph Syrinx fled from Arcadian Pan. As soon as Pan had captured Syrinx, he opened his eyes to find she had transformed into nothing but a bundle of reeds. He breathed a sigh of disappointment and was surprised to hear atune come forth: " At least that shall be mine," he said, and called his new instrument Syrinx in her honor.

B.J. Ward, an acclaimed actress and singer, has worked with many popular composers including Stephen Sondheim, David Shire, Jerry Herman, Barry Manilow, and Charles Fox. She began singing opera as a teenager but took an Off-Broadway detour to play the Girl in The Fantasticks. She has made her living with her voice for many years doing commercials, and voice overs. She has recorded six albums, three of which are available on CDBABY.COM. The Queen of The Night, Stand-Up Opear and Syrinx. B.J.'s one-woman show , Stand-Up Opera, continues to play to sold out audiences. She has appeared at Linclon Center, The Kennedy Center, and Philharmonic Centers and Universities acreoss the country.
