Departures is the solo piano debut release of pianist/composer Bob Gold. This is an intimate recording of improvisations and performances of work by Bill Evans, Federico Mompou, and Paul Buchanan (AKA The Blue Nile.)

There's a rich cross-section of classical and jazz influences, and even elements of folk in these improvisations. The variety and accessibility of the music on this album could easily allow it to be filed under Jazz or New Age.

This album is very much about expressing one's voice through an instrument. The works do not leap out at the listener, but rather evolve, with a realtime sense of performance/composition. The detail and warm ambience of the recording takes the listener into the process of bringing new music out of a Steinway Concert Grand.

The recording was done at high resolution, with a great set of microphones. The interested listener is encouraged to check out the www.bobgoldmusic.com website, where there are additional details and downloads of greater fidelity.
