Kristien Baines began piano lessons when he was eight years old. His natural talent and love of the piano soon became apparent and in his early 20's Kris played keyboard for several UK and US bands and travelled extensively.
Through playing keyboard for prominent US bands including the LA band Iannello Kris honed his talent and gained valuable experience in playing, recording, composing and performing. His repertoire included a vast range of musical styles and session work.
During his time in L.A. Kris' quest for spiritual truth ended when he committed his life to Jesus Christ. And while God's call saw Kris gradually move away from secular music, his love for music and formidable talent grew exponentially.
In 1998, Kris moved to New Zealand where he taught up to 60 private students as a full time piano teacher. In 2001, he entered the Lord's Ministry full time as a Pastor/Worship leader and finished recording his first solo piano CD entitled Selah Hymns.
The fact that Kris still plays the piano is both a miracle and a testimony itself to the grace of God. Six years ago he was advised to stop playing after being diagnosed with a Repetitive Strain Injury in both hands. However, he says that God miraculously intervened, healing him and enabling him to play to this day.
Selah Hymns is a reflection of Kris' love for the great hymns of the past.
"I like the idea of playing instrumental versions of great hymns in a very expressive way and also using improvisation. With such powerful and emotive words it seems necessary to put much feeling into the music," he says.
Kris hopes and prays that his renditions of these classic hymns will draw you closer to His Saviour and Lord, Jesus Christ.
Kris Baines is married to Becky and they live in Auckland. In 2001 they were blessed with a daughter, Sarah.
