A beautiful CD from a small monastery in Northern Michigan's Keewenaw Peninsula. Nancy Larson offers inspired performances of Franz Liszt's Harmonies Poetiques et Religieuses, the Sonata in A minor, D. 784 of Schubert, two preludes of Rachmaninoff, and the Moonlight Sonata of Beethoven.
In October of 2001 Nancy Larson and Rolf von Walthausen, pianists from the Interlochen Arts Center, performed the inaugural recital of inspirational music at the monastery. The forty or so guests present shared their enthusiasm, many said they were moved and deeply touched by the experience. We felt that the experience should not be limited to the few people our room could accommodate. Ms. Larson returned this past spring (2002) to record pieces she had played on the recital, as well as some additional repertoire.
