The Donald Brinegar Singers, 36 voice ensemble, has been featured at the American Choral Directors National Convention in San Antonio in 2001, where its performance and recording of Eric Whitacre's "Lux Aurumque" caused that score to become a new sensation with choirs across the US. The choir had the honor of being one of two featured choirs at the ACDA Convention in Las Vegas in February of 2004. It will premiere Morten Lauridsen's "Nocturnes" at the 2005 ACDA National Convention in Los Angeles.
Their recordings include a collaboration with the Santa Barbara Symphony in the concert presentation and recording of "Amerindia" by Heitor Villa-Lobos, as well as seven highly acclaimed compact discs that include the premiere recording of the organ version of Morten Lauridsen's "Lux Aeterna" (available at CD Baby). Their performances have been reviewed in a number of papers. The Santa Barbara News Press noted "the group's glorious sense of an ensemble voice." The LA Weekly raved that DBS is "an excellent small chorus," and the Los Angeles Times said that the choir's performance of Morten Lauridsen's music was "sung with loving sensitivity." The group rehearses and performs several concerts each season in Southern California. Tours have included performances in the UK and Costa Rica. Donald Brinegar is Professor of Music and Director of Choral and Vocal Studies at Pasadena City College. He also co-directs the Masters of Choral Music program at California State University, Los Angeles and serves as instructor of voice at Pomona College located in Claremont, California. His choirs have received invitations to sing at major choral conferences such as the American Choral Directors Association, the Southern California Vocal Association, The California Music Educators Association and significant choral festivals from New York to Hawaii and from England to Germany.
