Through the course of thirteen concert seasons and over thirty performances, several festival appearances, three highly acclaimed, self-released CD's and numerous broadcasts on National Public Radio, Canticle A Cappella Choir has begun to garner reviews comparable to the world's leading professional a cappella choral ensembles.
A non-profit, non-denominational, Santa Barbara based arts ensemble, Canticle's blend and unity are enhanced by the custom of performing from memorization. All of Canticle's recordings are "live", not edited nor digitally enhanced in any way. The spirit and resonance of the choir are aided by the dynamic accoustics of local performance venues including San Roque Catholic Church, Old Mission Santa Barbara, Trinity Episcopal Church, and Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church. The catalyst for the group's bond and allegiance to choral artistry is Canticle's Conductor Phyllis E. Zimmerman. She taught choral music at Santa Barbara High School for 26 years, was voted "Local Hero" in the Santa Barbara Independent and received her training at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota.
