This musical offering will truly warm your heart and grace your holidays. Earlin Vincent sings beautifully and succinctly captures the spirit and essence of Christmas and the holidays. There is a wonderful eclecticism representing the finest in traditional carols, chants, spirituals, songs and a marvelously sung “Rejoice†from Handel’s “Messiahâ€. These carols and songs have come to us over the centuries from England, France, Germany, Italy, West-Indies, and the people of African-American descent, and send the eternal message of ecumenism and inclusion.
Ms. Vincent is a well-schooled musician who sings with verve, taste, and understanding. Her voice has a mature, supple, liquid sound and is used to great advantage no matter the style or period. There is not a sameness of sound; instead, one hears a fine flexibility, which is employed in her very own inimitable manner. Whereas a cappella singing can be positively glorious, it can never be assumed that the basics will be fully and adequately covered. The Xavier University Concert Choir is a well-balanced ensemble that sings with meaning, conviction, sensitivity, and of paramount importance, remains true to the pitch. Of particular note is the consistently serene and placid accompaniment of the guitarist who gives a fine presence, complements but never intrudes. Deserving special mention is the wonderful partnership between voice and piano on “Oh Holy Night.†The message of “O Come Let Us Adore Him†is a universal one of love, faith, hope, peace and joy embodied in the story of the birth of Christ, the eternal heart of Christmas.
