Celebration Recordings released the classical piano CD, Celebration! with Contemporary Preludes, Classical Etudes and Baroque Dances by Dianne Goolkasian Rahbee, Gladys Herbekian, Alicia Terzian and Koharik Gazarossian. Margot Dilmaghani of Purchase, NY, researched and recorded the music.
A life-long musician, Margot Dilmaghani graduated from Northwestern University's School of Music with a performing degree in Harp. For years, she has specialized in researching women's music for harp and piano recitals. Always lyrical and often profound, even the briefest compositions evoke a wide pallet of emotions when offered to "salon" audiences. Margot Dilmaghani recently searched out women composers of classical piano sharing her Armenian heritage. Her dream was to link creative works of Armenian women with a project benefiting women in Armenia today. When she heard about the long-held hope of publishing classic women's health book in Armenian, Our Bodies Ourselves it became a shared dream and Celebration! took form. Celebration! successfully raised funds for the printing of the 2nd edition of the Armenian Our Bodies Ourselves. Celebration! now benefits NOFA, Northeast Organic Farming Association. NOFA receives $10. from the sale of each CD. "Margot's second CD, Gardens of the Heart" features Classical and Ragtime solo piano music about Nature and composed by women. It includes Etudes and lyrical pieces about flowers, gardens, the Earth and sky. Margot researched the Classical compositions at Lincoln Center's Library for the Performing Arts, at university libraries, and thru small independent presses in the United States. The Ragtime Music was selected from the 350 women composers in the Mid-West who composed during the Golden Age of Rag in the United States from 1890's-1920's. The CD insert includes biographical information about each composer and something about the music as well. This CD benefits NOFA, the Northeast Organic Farming Association, the oldest organic farming association in the US. NOFA is an organization of farmers, gardeners and consumers working to promote local organic food systems through an Interstate Council and chapters in NJ, NY,CT,VT,NH,RI and MA. They certify farms, sponsor farm tours, mentoring programs, workshops, conferences, newsletters and support organic gardening programs in schools and prisons. NOFA receives $10 per CD. "Gardens of the Heart" is the second in a series of benefit CD's produced by Celebration Recordings and recorded at Clinton Recording Studios, NY.NY. All the music was researched and recorded by pianist, Margot Dilmaghani, who holds a performance degree in harp from the Northwestern University School of Music. "Celebration!" and "Gardens of the Heart" can be heard on National Public Radio stations across the country. Margot's support of women's issues grows out of her connection to environmental issues. She agrees with those who believe there is a correlation between the manner in which a culture relates to the Earth and the way it treats women. In a recent interview, Margot describes, "My love for the Earth and enduring interest in environmental concerns grew out of an early childhood in America's heartland, the Farm Belt. There, the rich, dark soil remains of ancient glacier deposits, the abundant wildlife in grassy fields, the backyard gardens and orchards augmented my intrinsic bond with life's basic rhythms and Nature's beauty.Born with "perfect pitch" a rare musical gift identifying all sound as musical, I began piano lessons at age 3 and gave recitals soon after, continuing to play all my life. "The first Earth Day, April 22, 1970, I was asked to play a selection from my senior harp recital, "Introduction and Allegro" - a chamber music composition by M. Ravel, at Northwestern University's chapel. A time of enormous turmoil on college campuses, it provided an Epiphany, illuminating the unique connection fine art provides between the Eternal and the material, the enduring and the ephemeral. Since then, I have combined my piano and harp music with environmental efforts satisfying my musical soul and activist heart. Further study in the broader dimensions of the musical experience reinforces my appreciation for music's access to Divine mystery." "NOFA is doing the most important environmental work possible. Stemming from the farming commitment to provide us with pure food -- the air, water and Earth are all tended to in the most natural and loving way. One element effects the other; the interconnection of all our planet's elements is inextricable, within an all too fragile webbing. Thru this conscious, responsible, sustainable choice, our vision and approach to life is altered at every level. First we know it, then we honor it, then we work to keep it sacred and whole." "It's a privilege to help NOFA's advocacy work through "Gardens of the Heart." Visit Margot's website: Dilmaghani.com/celebration. Margot and Dennis Dilmaghani have been married for 30 years and have three sons: Daniel, Matthew and David. Margot says: " 'Twas born with music in my Soul and "perfect pitch" -- a rare, wonderful natural gift enabling me to hear music in just about every sound -- plus giving me the capability of identifying pitches on musical instruments. 'Started piano lessons at age 3 -- and performance soon after. Harp studies started at age 10 at Northwestern University's School of Music in Evanston, IL with one of our country's foremost instructors of harp. Later, as a College student at Northwestern, studied with Chicago Symphony's principal harpist. And ALWAYS, always, continued playing the PIANO! (... no instrument transportation problems!) 'Graduated with a Performance Degree from NU's School of Music. Earned a Master's in Education (Guidance Counseling Major) from Loyola University of Chicago. Other formal education -- Graduate of the Guild for Spiritual Guidance, (a layperson's program) and earned a Certificate for introductory courses in Music for Healing from the New School in NYC. Studied privately with Maria Cisyk in NYC (Juilliard, BMu, MMu, Yale MMu, PhD.) My husband and I reared our 3 wonderful sons and now it's time for even more music in my life! I've always cared about women's creative expressions. So over many years, I've researched and found lovely musical compositions by women. As you'll see on other parts of my website, I've arranged a variety of programs, which keep growing! (Meanwhile, I continue to offer harp recitals including major repertoire) My website is: www.dilmaghani.com/margot. Piano recital fees are substantially less than harp recital fees as transportation of the harp is quite a task! So be it Classical Piano Music by Women Composers or Classical Harp Music, do consider a recital that feeds the soul and brings beauty to life! Thanks from Margot Dilmaghani!
