"A choir of highest professionalism."
These are a few of the words used by critics in Germany to describe the Northwestern College Choir. While still a virtually undiscovered jewel in the world of choral music, this incredible group is continually reaching new levels of choral excellence. "Reformation", the choir's latest recording from their most recent European tour, thoroughly substantiates what the critics are saying.
Who is the Northwestern College Choir?
The 68-voice Northwestern College Choir of St. Paul, Minnesota is among the leading college choirs in the state of Minnesota, and is the premier auditioned choir on the Northwestern campus with nearly 1600 enrolled students. The College Choir performs primarily sacred a cappella music of all musical eras, hymns and spirituals, and regularly presents major choral-orchestral works. The choir has showcased concerts at Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis, the National Shrine in Washington D.C., Prague's Dvorak Hall, Dresden's Krenzkirche, Leipzig Gewandhaus, The Cathedral of St. Cecelia in Omaha, along with a number of premier venues around the world. While annual tours of the United States and Canada are taken every year, the Choir also embarks on occasional overseas tours including trips to the British Isles, Scandinavia, as well as the critically acclaimed visit to mainland Europe. This amazing choir runs under the musical expertise of Timothy Sawyer.
What the critics have said:
"Choral music direct from the heart! ...Their musical interpretation is unique. The sound is almost like a large organ or an orchestra, with its many registers and tonal colors, and especially with a dynamic breadth ranging from the hardly audible yet still discernible piano to raging columns of sound which fill the hall. ...The chorus has an intellectual and musical communication that creates enchanting moments which are astonishing and amazing." (Herrenberg, Germany)
"Professor Timothy Sawyer leads the vocally excellent chorus with extraordinarily sensitive musicality...transforming their sound." (Trier, Germany)
