The New Cranbrook Singers (NCS) were formed as a non-profit corporation in July 2002 with the specific mission and purpose to present to the public high-quality musical programs with the intent to promote and instill interest in the musical, especially choral, arts.

Consisting of twenty four singers from across the greater Detroit metropolitan area, NCS is directed by Music Director and Conductor Charles W. Raines. The membership includes many of the finest ensemble singers in Southeast Michigan and represents the highest standards of choral singing. The repertoire of the NCS can be described as eclectic in the finest sense of the word - creative, diverse and original - with the purpose to broaden the audience's experience of the vast riches of the choral repertory.

The ensemble presented its debut performances during the 2002-2003 concert season. Beginning with a concert of Christmas and seasonal holiday music in December 2002, The New Cranbrook Singers presented its premiere performance with orchestra in the First Presbyterian Church of Royal Oak to a near standing-room-only audience. The group concluded its first season in May 2003 with - My Spirit Sang All Day - a concert of choral music on the themes of love and Spring. The performance included the Michigan premiere performance of John Rutter's unpublished arrangement of Hoagy Carmichael's Skylark.
