Don's musical journey started when his father bought him a guitar. Don was just ten years old. After spending his teen years playing with local country and rock bands, Don finally got his first break after being recruited by the popular rock band "Chameleon" featuring the future New Age icon Yanni. Chameleon released several acclaimed recordings including the regional hit "Stranded". Don learned a lot about the music business as well as writing during this time.
Don continued his career by playing with various national recording acts such as Melvin James (MCA Records) and Dugan McNeil (Polygram Records). Further, Don has co-written songs released on NorthSounds Records and preformed on many national television and radio commercials, including clients like CBS, Berkeley, EcoWater and many others.
The defining moment in Don's life occurred while visiting his brother's farm in Long Prairie, Minnesota. He happened to take in a concert by the legendary Ricky Skaggs at the local high school. Don says "Suddenly a light went on in my head and I knew what I really wanted to do, write and record country music about my life, experiences and family".
With his latest CD release, "Last of the Pioneers"; Don had come full circle, returning to the music that touched his heart as a child. This CD features original bluegrass/folk country music written as a tribute to America's small independent farmers. This CD features beautiful ballads with Don's smooth tenor vocals such as "O'Rachel" which was inspired by a trip to Andrew Jackson's plantation "The Hermitage" in Nashville, Tennessee and "From Now On" that Don wrote for his wife Tess on their Wedding Day. The CD also features the high-energy, foot stompin' bluegrass tune "Son of a Farmer's Son" which was inspired by the colorful people and rolling hills around Long Prairie, Minnesota where Don spent his childhood summers at his grandparents farm.
