Ethan Hipple lives, believe it or not, on Podunk Road in a small New Hampshire town, running a volunteer program and helping raise a family with his partner Sarah.. When he showed up with a few friends at Wellspring a couple months ago, I was struck by the maturity and depth of his writing, along with a knack for a catchy hook now and then.
He's also one hell of a singer, and some of the songs he covers have since become favorites around here. This album was recorded over a two day period with a bunch of friends- (Ellery Kimball on banjo, Josh Fishkin on Guitars, Raven Naramore and Erik Weil on vocals, Michael Shay on Cello) along with additional parts by Wellspring engineers Nick Gallant and me, who liked the songs so much we couldn't keep our mitts off of them. The entire album has a very "back porch" feel to it--nothing's too polished or slick, and the songs don't want or need fancy production. They stand up just fine on their own. Here's hoping you catch some of the light coming off this CD, and enjoy it half as much as we did making it. Eric Kilburn Wellspring Sound October 2005 Track List: 1. Spring Song 2.
