"It's all about the song," says lead-singer and songwriter Doug Kwartler about his band Foundry. "Whatever the song requires is what we strive to put into it -- nothing more, nothing less."

When listening to "It Matters," the first track on the band's debut CD, World Rattles 'Round, and watching this group perform live, one gets the sense that Foundry puts its heart, soul, and every ounce of energy these guys can muster up into "it." Upon listening further into the disc, the listener discovers an album filled with captivating stories in songs featuring uncompromising musicianship, tasteful arrangements, and rock-solid guitar and melody driven hooks.

Influences start to unfold immediately upon listening to the album. Folk Rock artists such as Springsteen, Tom Petty and Dylan are apparent on songs like "It Matters," "World Rattles 'Round," "Need A Friend," and "Guthrie." Country Rock artists such as Dwight Yoakam, The Mavericks and Gram Parsons are evident on songs such as "Main Street's Shut Down," "Another Sundown," and "Bus." Additionally, the rockabilly influence of Eddie Cochran, Gene Vincent and Brian Setzer shines through on "Lucy," the albums final track.

World Rattles 'Round was recorded over a two-year period with some of its songs literally being written and recorded in twenty-four hours while others took the entire two-year span to complete. Many of the basic rhythm tracks were recorded together giving the songs a live and supple feel. Production wise, atmosphere and dynamics were given priority over perfection and polish, making World Rattles 'Round an emotional and evocative record. Lyrically, the album covers thought provoking issues such as capitol punishment, poverty, racism, interpersonal relationships, and coming to terms with the past.

The CD also includes two songs, "Need A Friend" and "America Uncovered," that feature stellar lap-steel guitar performances by Mark Spencer, the former Blood Oranges guitarist currently performing with Lisa Loeb and touring with Jay Farrar of Son Volt. Mr. Spencer also mixed the song, "Need A Friend" in his Tape Kitchen studios in New York.

Additionally, Foundry recently filmed a full-length music video for "It Matters," the first single, which is available for viewing on their web site and on a companion CD. The video was filmed in a barn on an abandoned farm in the rural setting of eastern Long Island. Kwartler says, "The video came out great. You could easily think that we were on some farm out in Nebraska or something but it was on Long Island, only about an hour and a half from New York City. We were happy to show off to the rest of the world that the Island isn't all malls and quarter-acre suburban plots."

Foundry consists of Kwartler on lead-vocals and rhythm guitar, Mike Leuci on drums and percussion, Mark Crosson on lead guitar and background vocals and Jim Leach on bass guitar and background vocals.

About the CD Kwartler adds, "We wanted to make a record with traditional influences that still sounded current. A record full of simple and accessible rock songs that were based in guitar, with memorable melodies, good musicianship and that told some interesting stories. I think we got the job done."
