Ever want to look over the shoulder of a writer on the day he calls a song a song? Here's your chance to hear the first version of twelve tunes played by the writer. No, these aren't boom-box work tapes but they aren't slicked-up studio recordings either... give a listen...
Roger moved to Nashville in 1983. It was still house painting and carpentry by day and songwriting at night. He had the good fortune to meet the producer and publisher Tommy West [Jim Croce]. He heard something special in Roger's music. After months of dropping off work-tapes, Roger got his first writing contract at MTM Publishing Company. One of the songs Roger brought into the deal was "Some Old Side Road", a song that would be cut by Keith Whitley [a single from the "Don't Close Your Eyes" album]. While at MTM, Roger also had singles by the 'Girls Next Door'. His good fortune continued with the George Jones single, 'The King is Gone, and So are You'. About this time, MTM Publishing sold. Roger continued his relationship with Tommy West by signing a publishing and production deal with Tommy's company, Further West Music. Through the years, Roger has had cuts by Dan Seals, Emmylou Harris, Marty Stuart, George Fox, as well as independent cuts and recordings in Europe. After twenty years in town, Roger has the respect of the Nashville music community as a great wordsmith. In his career, Roger has frequented the local writer's nights and has made club appearances with his band. He has been heard on WPLN, WSM and "The Chittlin' Show" made famous by the Kentucky Headhunters. Roger resides in Nashville with his wife and his two sons.
