As always my songs are mostly about my life. My experiences, thoughts and feelings I’ve had at different points in my life. “DREAMING MY OWN DREAM†expresses my feelings over the past year as I cleared clutter from my life and focused full time on the Don O’Neal sound and what I want in life. “I DON’T KNOW THE WORDS†expresses some of the feelings I had when I knew my marriage was over and I didn’t know the words to put it back together. Sometimes when a marriage has ended and we are fighting for sanity we cling to another person in desperation with more felling than that person can return. When that person walks out we go through a feeling that everything would be alright if they would just “COME ON BACK TO MEâ€.
I couldn’t resist a little silliness in this album. “DAMN IT MAN†is a story about the disbelief a young man feels when he first suspects and, then realizes a lovely and wonderful woman is in love with him. In the song “DO IT†a man learns something he didn’t know about his girl. Have you ever been around a graveyard late at night and heard something spooky? “THE GRAVEYARD†is about a man walking past a graveyard on his way home from a night out with his girl. He hears voices in the graveyard and quickly decides his life is in danger. It turns out he had nothing to worry about and feels silly in the end.
