The Blake Mountain Band has been making music together since 1983. Members of the group are Ginny Loring (fiddle, bass, autoharp, vocals), George Loring (banjo and mandolin), Lester Bradley (guitar and vocals), Dave Bradley (bass and vocals) and Bernard Merrill (dobro). Their music is all acoustic and includes a mix of bluegrass, traditional country, Gospel, old-timey tunes, French Canadian fiddle tunes and a little Cajun thrown in for good measure.
In addition to playing concerts, they also are in demand for square dances. Lester is a caller of old time New England squares. Lester and Dave were invited to be participants in the Smithsonian Folklife Festival of 1999, representing New Hampshire, on the Mall in Washington, D.C. for that event.
While none of the group might be considered outstanding musicians, their many years of working together has produced a very nicely blended sound. One of their strong points is certainly the vocal harmony to be found on many of their selected pieces. Lester's wife, Sharon, joins the group and adds her beautiful lead soprano on some numbers.
Always a crowd pleaser any time they play out are the three bones players who come along and add their unique touch to the music. One of those bones players is Elwin "Shorty" Boulet, who can be heard on two selections on the group's first CD, Silver & Gold.
