Cornel Dyke is a Country singer/songwriter who currently resides in Aldergrove B.C. Cornel, his wife Bonnita and his six children are members of the Langley based BC Songwriter's Showcase Association (BCSSA), often showcasing their music on Wed nights at McBurney's Coffee House in downtown Langley. Performances by Cornel and his family have also become a popular attraction at local fairs such as the Abbotsford Agrifair as well as many other local events. Cornel also performed at the Merritt Mountain Music Festival, the largest country music festival in Canada.
Cornel was raised in a musical family. Singsongs were regular events whenever relatives and friends got together. Cornel's country roots can be traced to his country-singing father Hank Dyke. Hank was well known in the fifties, playing with the likes of Elmer Tippe (Rick Tippe's dad) and Loretta Lynn. Cornel can also credit his artist mother for much of his creative ability. In the eighties while living in the interior of British Columbia, Cornel played in a family band with his dad and brothers. Their band became a popular local band placing first in two "Battle of the Bands". After winning a day in a local recording studio, Cornel was successful in having four original songs play-listed in 3 area radio stations. Since moving to the Vancouver Lower Mainland, Cornel has worked as a photographer, advertising consultant and busy father and husband. In 2000 with the encouragement of his wife Bonnita, Cornel decided to once again become active with his music. He joined the BCSSA to showcase his original songs and he attended local NSAI (Nashville Songwriter's Association International) songwriting workshops to learn how to write better ones. Cornel's efforts have been paying off! Cornel was recently awarded "2004 Songwriter of the year" and "2004 Song of the year" (It's Really Comin' Down) by the BCSSA. Cornel's first single, "She Don't Know It" co-written with brother Kevin Dyke is currently receiving radio airplay worldwide. It also reached the semi finals in the 2005 International Song Contest. There were over 11,000 entries from both professional and amateur writers. Cornel has truly rekindled and honed his songwriting & singing skills. With the assistance of co-writers including country star Aaron Pritchett, Cornel has created enough original material for his debut CD titled "Here I Am", produced by award winning producer Tom McKillip, released in early 2005.
