Dean was born in east Tennessee into a family of six children, On the weekends there was live music in the home all during his childhood. Dean's father was a prize winning fiddle player, his brother is an excelent musician and his two sisters both play piano.
Dean started learning piano and drums when he was about thirteen years old and before long was playing in small bands for teen clubs and parties. In his late teens and early twenties he started working in night clubs in east Tennessee and the surrounding states. He also began to play in recording studios for mostly gospel singing groups. In the early seventies he came to Nashville and traveled with a number of bands while doing some studio work when he was in town. After a few years he became dissatisfied and felt a desire to change, things began to happen when he started to search for God's will for his life. He stoped working in night clubs and started all over with his song writing, He threw away his country songs and started writing nothing but songs with a Gospel message. Dean has had songs recorded by many well known country and gospel artist. The income from song writing made it possible to record His first CD, "Sermon In Song" featured here.
