My life and my music, both as a performer and a composer, have been shaped by tradtions. As a kid, I learned old time country songs from the radio, and from my parents 78 RPM records, when those songs were a brand new musical style. Some of the traditional bluegrass songs were learned years before they had even acquired the 'Bluegrass' label.

The songs on this album were chosen for their traditional character - some were born in the very early beginnings of Bluegrass (Cora is Gone), and classic Country (Hank Williams' House of Gold). Others are of a more recent vintage, but with a traditional 'roots' flavour. Two of the songs, 'Ride the Train' and 'Steel Rail Boogie' were written by me, in what I hope will be accepted as having a traditional and old time flavor.
