Newman, Stonewall Jackson, Webb Pierce, String Bean, Carl and Pearl Butler, Rex Griffin, Minnie Pearl, Dotty West, Clyde Moody, Benny Martin, Loretta Lynn, Marvin Rainwater, and George Morgan.
Joe began playing the fiddle in 1952 on several radio stations in Alabama. A short time later Joe went west and started playing in Texas dancehalls. Joe played in numerous bands and eventually came home to play in the four-state area of Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania. After fifty years of playing for dances and shows Joe wants to pass on some of the fiddle tunes that he has learned over these years. The CD that Joe has recorded, "FIDDLIN' JOE SHEWBRIDGE", contains eleven of the old-time tunes that the public seems to like the best. Some of these tunes are very old and were passed on to Joe by some old-time fiddlers when he first started playing over fifty years ago. Today you can find Fiddlin' Joe living in West Virginia and giving workshops, demonstrations, and talks about some of his experiences he has had over the years.
