["Rose" comes with an 8-page booklet of original paintings.*]

"...But the real magic here is in the music...

...On the opening song and title track, "Wild Irish Rose," Squibb's voice draws across a deep country landscape. On this and other stand out tracks, like "Over You," "Don't Touch Me," and "Once You've Had the Best," The music is pure, heavyweight country...

...An airy piano sweeps into "It Ain't Gonna Worry My Mind," before a fiddle and pedal steel add depth and resonance to "I Can Live Forever," a song that details the afterlife. "When you die you'll live again/ If you just believe..."

..."I Am," another highlight of the disc, counts the singer's blessings. Then Ian Kennedy's expert guitarwork announces "Wood & Wire," a song that describes the toil of the working man...

...Produced by guitarist Ian Kennedy at Sugarfit Sound, the production quality of these songs is easily up to major label standards..."

"Sometimes Sherfey leans a little green and the mood switches over to the Celtic side, sometimes he's back on this side of the pond with straight-up easy going music. David Squibb's voice is expressive if a bit nasal at times (No manure Matlock. I sing country.) but still seems to fit the traditional-Celtic thing he's working throughout the record."

(Performer Magazine)

"...Here's why I love this CD...He sings the songs that move him, not necessarily the big hits, in his own style...If you're a real Jones fan, you have a brother in Hal Sherfey, and Wild Irish Rose is a must for your collection..."

(Michael Blake Mahler/Co-Writer/"Wood & Wire")

------------------------------------------------------------

"...all the passion and smoothness of the man himself with the freshness and tenderness of a new, emerging voice in the best of the old school country tradition..."

(Eileen Rose/recording artist)

Want to create a great country mix?
------------------------------------------------------------

Below is a list of 25 songs, spanning four decades, that provides a good overview of the evolution of country music, from Carters to Cowboys to Countrypolitan. There are obvious omissions (My apologies to Webb, Waylon, Dolly, Charlie R., Charlie P. & Tom T.) but you can burn these 25 songs onto a standard CDR without running out of memory (I was forced to make impossible choices). That being said, this survey includes some of the most important contributions to country music from the 1930's to the 1970's, from Kitty to Conway and from Lefty to Loretta.

I apologize for my obvious prejudice for the 1960's. (I've included a track for each year of the decade.) I just happen to think it was an extra special decade in country music history. (My apologies to Hank Williams) and I wanted to give this list some sort of focus. Many of these artists have obviously made important contributions to more than one decade, but I had to limit this list to one title per artist, to keep it broad. (My apologies to George Jones.)

Anyway, I attempted to pick a broad spectrum of important artists and/or styles in order to present an expansive stylistic sampling, from Jimmie Rodgers' yodel to Ray Price's shuffle to just one foray into bluegrass, with The Stanley Brothers. (My apologies to Bill Monroe.) Additionally, I leaned toward choosing songs that the artists penned themselves, to provide even more focus. One last thing. I tried not to make this list too terribly obvious. Great as it is, what's the point of suggesting you go and burn Patsy Cline's "Crazy"? (My apologies to Willie Nelson). A list like this should be a little off the beaten path. ---David Squibb 7/17/04
