Jon realized about 5 years ago that he really could make a living doing what he loved best....singing. His family had encourage him to sing at a University of Kentucky tailgate party. The response was so overwhelming that he began receiving job offers. In fact, he accepted an offer that very afternoon. He began singing at a local restaurant in Lexington where he continued for the next year. This was just the beginning of the fun that was yet to come.
Throughout his school years Jon played sports where he excelled and won several awards. However, it didn't take long for his chorus teacher to recognize the hidden talent within him. When his parents attended a school program where he sang a solo, they were shocked. They then realized the other talent their son possessed. In high school, Jon won the award for "Most Talented Singer." He began performing in fundraisers for the Cancer Society as well as entertaining in the gym for the whole school. He also sang the National Anthem at football and basketball games before playing in the games.
Since those days, Jon Russell has been avidly pursuing his career in country music. He has performed in numerous establishments and fundraisers throughout Kentucky and Tennessee. He has also been the opening act for such names as David Allen Coe, Ricochet, and the Kentucky Headhunters. In October 2002, Jon traveled to Nashville to perform with Earl Thomas Conley and Billy Joe Royal.
Jon Russell's first CD, "First Time Out" was recorded in Nashville, TN. Many of the songs were written and co-written by Jon, his good friend and fellow band member Tim Curtis, and other well-known song writers in Nashville. It is currently being played on several radio stations throughout Kentucky.
