Growing up in church with an aunt who played the church piano and sang, LaVada started her young career of singing with her aunt and in church choirs, and then on to solo work. It didn't take long to conquer her fear of the stage, microphone, and the audience. She had some great choir directors that took advantage of her voice and always challenged LaVada to sing a "special" song.
Once entering Woodward Academy, a private college preparatory school in College Park, GA, LaVada experienced many choral groups, from special ensembles to ladies chorales to mixed chorus. She was challenged by a wide array of musical sounds from gospel to show tunes to opera pieces. This led to her competing in State competitions while in school.
Experiencing her first private vocal coach at age 15, she soon made the decision to major in Education and Music, specializing in voice at Asbury College in Wilmore, Kentucky. There she set her sites to become a member of the elite Singing Ambassadors before graduating from Asbury. Accomplishing this during her senior year allowed her singing experience to expand into a summer of touring throughout Europe. Additionally, LaVada has traveled throughout the United States singing in many venues from military to churches to special events on and off campus.
It didn't take long for LaVada to realize that when she sang, people listened. Not only did they listen, but hearts were touched, and a message received. Whether she's singing Christian music, jazz, country, or a beautiful love song, LaVada wraps her arms around her audience. She feels the power of the music and understands the message in a song and how it speaks to the human soul.
At times in her life while raising her two beautiful daughters, she's had to abandon her music for their priorities, working tirelessly to provide for them. Now that she has ownership of her time and choices more than ever before, LaVada is devoted to the message and perfection of her musical talents.
Even though she had experienced recording in a studio before with choral groups, LaVada finally achieved a long awaited goal by releasing her first ever solo CD, featuring country, jazz, big band, Christian, and love songs. She's had the privilege of traveling with several singing groups in high school and college, covering many U.S. locations, spending a summer in Europe traveling from Italy to Germany to Switzerland to Austria to Moscow, and Vienna, singing in many historical churches, military bases, performance halls, schools, private corporate parties, and coffee shops, and no telling how many weddings and funerals she's performed for in the past 25 years.
Her smile is captivating, her words engaging, her message meaningful, her desire to sing, burning!
LaVada's Dad, being talented himself musically, singing and playing his guitars, has continued to challenge her musically over the years. They've performed together at many special events and now sing in coffee shops, churches, and special events together; making memories that will last a life time.
As a young girl, LaVada's Dad had a major influence on her love of music as she used to sit on the living room floor and listen to him play the guitar, sing country gold, and tell Cajun jokes over and over again.
LaVada's community involvement spans her whole life from spending her summers traveling with youth groups singing and witnessing to children and adults throughout Georgia and Tennessee, to performing for Zoo Atlanta, to fundraising events such as the Festival of Hope Annual Event sponsored by the North Georgia Regional Hospital, to church events.
