Mark Murphey's latest release, That's Who I Am, features nine original songs and three cover songs. Mark's career as a singer-songwriter spans the past two decades with most of that time spent with The Class Band. Mark writes, sings, auctioneers, flips burgers, is a good mechanic, and re-builds John Deere tractors.
The That's Who I Am project was recorded over a seventeen year period with two common elements - Mark Murphey and Lloyd Maines. It features some of the best Texas musicians and is summed up in a line from Amarillo Highway - "I don't wear a Stetson but I'm willing to bet son that I'm big a Texan as you are."
California Wine was first released in the eighties and charted on Bill Board. It remains a timely tune destined to becoming a classic. Low and Lonely and Oklahoma Pride are also Mark Murphey originals. Mark co-wrote, Down in Mexico, The Devil Took Your Mind, Georgia on His Mind, Winter Night, That's Who I Am, and Mary Go Round.
Also on the album, Mark does a great job with Terry Allen's Amarillo Highway, Michael Nesmith's I Just Began to Care and the old Johnny Horton "mover" On A Honky Tonk Hardwood Floor.
