Colin's musical career started in the south of England, where it was soon interrupted by two years with the Royal Marines Band, playing piano in the Oceanaires dance orchestra and alto sax in the military band. This tour of duty included two visits to Canada, taking part in the British Columbia centenary celebrations in Vancouver and playing at the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto, as well as a tour of Scandinavia, playing with the band in Norway, Sweden and Denmark. If you ever find yourself watching an old movie called "Indiscreet", with Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman, look out for the Royal Marines dance band in the ballroom scene. The pianist's moment of fame lasted for about four seconds, so don't blink.....
This was followed by a couple of summers on the island of Jersey in the Channel Islands, playing piano with a trio, while the winter months were spent in France with a quintet. And then six months of work on the island of Abaco in the Bahamas somehow led to eighteen years playing the piano at Abaco's Treasure Cay Resort. From there it was short hop to south Florida, where Colin works with groups of all sizes, ranging from trios to 16-piece orchestras. For fans of his music on both sides of the Atlantic, this CD contains his own solo interpretations of some of everybody's favorite songs by composers such as Harold Arlen, Jerome Kern, Richard Rodgers, Anthony Newley and Victor Young - and including one of the most underrated ballads of recent years, Barry Manilow's "When October Goes".
