I am listening to Connection for the first time in years as I write this. I am proud of this recording--the tunes are melodic, fairly simple but often have a humorous twist. The performance keeps in well with the writing. On bass, former Elvin Jones band member John Brown solidly lays it down. This gives drummer, Bobby Cohen room to play loose modern fills over his old-school feel. With such strong support my playing is comfortable with the confidence to take risks.
I had played with these guys for years before recording and you will definitely hear the "Connection" between us when you listen. --Gabe A bit of a review: "...young Evens will remind connoisseurs of accessible maestros like Vince Guaraldi and Wynton Kelly. Like those heroes, Evens is not afraid to entice the audience with a sweet strain of melody or a familiar blues clue." -- Joe Vanderford, The Independent Check out the artist's website: http://www.gabeevens.com Track List: 1.
