"When he's not jamming with his rock band hi-five or teaching uptown at Columbia or down at Turtle Bay, Brooklyn-based guitarist Hunter Perrin is writing and recording his solo guitar music. Having studied at the University of Texas at Austin and Yale--where he was given the Eliot Fisk award--Perrin follows his self-titled 2000 debut with his cinematically-inspired 2003 CD entitled Subtitles. Much like the way instrumental music was used to convey a wide range of moods in the silent films back in the 20's and 30's, Perrin parlays his expertise on nylon string acoustic guitar to create a lineup of eighteen emotive solo acoustic guitar pieces. A fascinating mixture of blues, Americana, and ragtime that clocks in at just over half an hour, Subtitles is an album that simply gets better with each spin.
--Robert Silverstein 20th Century Guitar Magazine May 2004 "Subtitles is an eclectic mix of guitar music. 'lines from an imaginary french film' evoke, with musical imagery, simple situations such as 'shall we dance?' 'music from a normal life' includes music used in the award-winning documentary 'a normal life.' The five 'low country parlour games' are cheery and fast paced, akin to bluegrass-folk songs." --Richard Fisher The Review, Houston TX December 2004 Check out the artist's website: http://www.hunterperrin.com Track List: 1. maybe 2. how shall i put this? 3. shall we dance? 4. shall we dream? 5. how 'bout a walk? 6. carter 7. silver 8. .minim. 9. greatest explosion 10. memories from drenicia 11. one year later 12. themes of transition 13.
