Matt Blake has performed as a singer/songwriter/guitarist for over fifteen years. His original works and arrangements reveal a diverse background of classical, pop, rock, and jazz styles, and have been heard through recordings, broadcasts, and performances across the United States (including segue material for NPR's All Things Considered).
Musical studies at East Carolina University and the University of Memphis presented the opportunity for private studies and masterclasses with such artists as Elliot Frank, Nicholas Goluses, William Kanengiser (Los Angeles Guitar Quartet), Bruce Holzman, and Charlton Johnson (Count Basie Orchestra). In addition to performing with the Coleman-Blake Duo, a flute/guitar chamber ensemble, Matt has worked with groups of various styles; including Sex, Love, And Money, the flute quartet Quicksilver, and the Memphis Symphony Orchestra. He has appeared as a soloist, performing his own music, for the Memphis Troubadors' Songwriter's Showcase, WKNO's Friday Live Lunch broadcast, and the Memphis Acoustic Music Association (MAMA). Behavior Patterns is Matt's first solo effort, and will be followed by his current project, Black Suit and Bones. Hailing from eastern North Carolina, Matt is now a resident of Memphis, TN, where he lives with his wife, two cats, and a tarantula named Rosie.
