Roger Chartier has been a musician for over 35 years and has played all over New England as well as a few stints in Key West, Fla.
New Bedford,Massachusetts is Roger's home town and also the whaling capital of the world at one time. From early youth on he was made aware of the rich heritage of songs of the sea and the whaling/fishing industry that was and is New Bedford's. A love of the great folk music and history left him with little choice but to express it in this remarkable cd of music from a bygone era. There are many great classics such as the rousing "Drunken Sailor" and "All For Me Grog" and the two wonderful instrumental tunes as well as an original song,"The Crew OF The Essex". That one is a tongue in cheek look at the crew of the whaleship Essex out of Nantucket and the disaster that led them to cannibalism. Roger continues to play regularly in the Southeastern Massachusetts area as well as an occasional trip away. His second CD "Sailing Away" is sure to be very popular as is the current one mentioned here, ie."Sailor Songs" This cd "Sailor Songs",is a peice of history for young and old alike.
