HISTORIC SKINNER ORGAN--AT THE PALLADIUM THEATER
This is the first CD ever made of the Palladium Theater's majestic Skinner Organ Opus #552, which was installed in the summer of 1926 with 4 manuals and 39 ranks. Skinner organs are respected for their lush orchestral sounds and superior craftsmanship and engineering. Remaining examples of the company's fine unduplicated work are treasures increasingly difficult to find. The Skinner Organ Company, Boston, 1900-1971 was one of the foremost pipe organ builders in America. This leader in late-romantic organs installed nearly 1400 instuments and perfected the first reliable electric key-action for pipes. Built in 1925 the former home of the First Church of Christ Scientist was transformed in 1998 into the Palladium Theater, a state-of-the-art performance venue seating 900 patrons on two levels with unobstructed view of the thrust stage. THE ARTIST Sylvia Marcinko Chai performs regularly at the Palladium Theater in St. Petersburg Florida. She is Director of Music at James A. Haley Veterans Administration Hospital in Tampa, Florida and Spanish Choir Director/Organist at the Church of the Incarnation in Tampa, Florida. She is the former Director of Music/Organist at St. Jospeh Church in Tampa. Sylvia Chai has served churches in Pompton Plains, Pequannock, Paterson, and Wayne, New Jersey.
