In 1978, we decided to have some fun singing “popular music†for church and community groups. Hazel, the soprano, was the only classically trained singer among us. Lina was a wholesale rose grower and Bob was a lawyer. We had been friends and had sung together for years in the church choir. Our church was “Grace Lutheran†so we became “The Grace Notesâ€.
Our programs started modestly, with very few props '" hats we carried in an antique trunk, along with a coat rack to hang them on. Later on we went to full costumes '" often changing on stage to the delight of our audiences. We had no orchestra or band, but we had wonderful pianists. We sang songs written by the best composers and lyricists of the century. We loved the beautiful melodies, savored the humor and sang the songs for church and community service groups for nearly twenty-five years.
