The Stories Behind the Songs
If We Listen
The message in this original is about the beginning of Advent. To reassure us that we have hope in all things if we listen for and to the voice of God in His son Jesus. It is meant to be an uplifting reminder that Jesus is coming and is based upon Isaiah 2:2-5.
A Child Shall Lead
This song is simplistic in its approach to the teachings of the great prophet Isaiah in Chapter 11:6-7. It is one of my favorite songs of the season. The original version can be heard on one of my favorite Christmas albums, "A Child Shall Lead" by The Interior Castle.
A Promise Kept
As Mary sits beside her newborn son, she sings a song of thanksgiving and praise for what the Lord has bestowed upon her. We find the beginning of her beautiful story in the book of Luke 1:46-49.
On this album you are most blessed to be listening to Patrick Mulhern's moving rendition of this unusual Christmas song. All too rarely do we get a chance to hear from Joseph in the Christmas story. I'm certain songwriter, Michael Card captured Joseph's awe and wonder in this beautiful bit of music and Patrick has brought it to life.
Were You There on that Christmas Night?
This is one of the most beautiful Christmas songs I know. When I first found my way back to church after a 20 year absence and subsequently found my way to music ministry, this was one of the first of the "new" Christmas songs I learned. The question remains, if we were there when Jesus was born, would we have known who he was?
Night of Silence/Silent Night
Night of Silence was written to be performed with Silent Night. I love the imagery created in this beautiful song about the night Jesus came into the world. The blending with Silent Night only adds to the gentle sweetness of this expression of this great birth.
With humility we approach the manger. We kneel before Him, even though he is but a small baby, we understand and recognize His kingly majesty. The voices all join in on this song to joyfully extol the birth of Jesus.
O Come All Ye Faithful
Adeste Fidelis has long been one of my all time favorite Christmas hymns. Jim Cosgrove's children's choir on "Songs of the Incarnation" provided the inspiration for this contemporary upbeat arrangement of the timeless classic.
The Magic of Christmas Day
The subtitle of this song is "God Bless Us Everyone". The message in the music is to bless us all; God doesn't discriminate; if we open our hearts the Spirit will indeed come to us.
Christmas All Year Through
When the love of God comes into your heart it's a gift unlike any other. God's love is forever and the birth of His son, that Love brought to Earth, should be celebrated all year long, not only on Christmas day or during the Christmas season.
