"Pages- part of a book that I once read- I remember I liked it, but I've forgotten what it said. If someone should see me sinking here, would they cry for me? Would anyone care? The sun rolls over the land- 10 billion working hands, salt baking on the sand. And I never lived like I would die." - from "Like I Would Die" The Old Kings was formed by guitarist, lead singer and songwriter Patrick Linton, guitarists Brian Crabtree and Paul DuPont and drummer Jeff DeFlorio. The band achieved success in the young music community of Singapore and released their first CD in early 2000. With the unfortunate departure of Paul at the beginning of the following year, the remaining Old Kings looked to improve and reinvent their sound. It was at this time that they met up with gifted keyboardist Sean Nerney and talented bassist Dave D'aranjo. All members of the band come from different, worldly paths, and the combination of their individual influences, experiences, and interpretations cumulated to the recording of the Old Kings' sophomore album, "Going to the Opera." Patrick's haunting lyrics, exceptional singing and inspired guitar playing coupled with Brian's solid guitar solos, held together by Jeff's carefree drumming, Sean's sensitive keyboards and Dave's powerful bass create a refreshing and introspective musical entity. The songs evoke a retrospective feel a la Bread, Jim Croce, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Don McLean and Crosby Stills and Nash. This is coupled with modern influences such as Coldplay, Jars of Clay, and The Beta Band. The songs are warm and melodic. The band is named after Brian and Patrick's old stomping grounds of Route 6A in Cape Cod, also known as Old Kings Highway. "Going to the Opera" is an album of promising young musical talent that should not be missed.
