Searching For Luke’s debut record “Lock Inside A Key†contains 12 tracks that is shining from both rubies and stars. The melodies linger like seaweed and the nylon stringed guitar is murring on in a kind of early Leonard Cohen-drive. A ringing harp is lighting small lanterns in contrast to the singing voice that’s crispy, dark and moist. Sometimes a cello lay in the back round and the strange, sliding sound of a saw appears like a daydreaming housewife whose husband gone to sea.
The album feels like it’s marinated in seawater and there’s a lot of rainy songs in there to. Searching For Luke’s lyric fills your head with pictures and the melodies do often flow into a dark lullaby chorus with shades of romantic cynicism. “Lock Inside A Key†is a cottage, warmed up with crackling timber, to enter a crystal clear autumn night. The songwriter periodically paints and therefore she decorates the album with her own artwork. "The instrumentation which is mostly acoustic guitar, cello, harp and saw begins to make sense as they chorus together adding an elemental feel to everything, a slightly unhinged undercurrent. She is at her best when throwing on the black robes - ‘Trees of Misery’ draws everything towards it, instruments swirling with a negative energy, her vocals world-weary; like Heathcliff mourning Cathy calling across wild moors, it is certainly the diurnal desires that she is interested in."
