Blackwood evolved from the swirling depths of southwestern sesiuns and began performing in early 2001. Each of its members arrived in Blackwood having performed across the region, the nation and the world. Its members found a common ground in their driving interpretation of traditional Irish and Scottish tunes which explores the rhythmic intricacies of the music while maintaining a respect for its tradition.
They stormed their local pub scene and quickly ascended to headlining performances at festivals across the region, drawing capacity crowds every step of the way. Their live performances create such frenetic energy that two live albums were released before the band could be induced into produce a studio album. Blackwood's exploration of the juncture between tradition and innovation is not only heard in their instrumental pieces but also their revival of classic folk ballads and their interpretation of modern songs from the Celtic and American tradition. Blackwood balances high energy with musical introspection; they are poised to push the limits of the Celtic tradition. Reviews: Bill Craig (former member of the Irish Rovers) says "they remind him of the superband Solas" From Karen Turner - FDLS Productions: "Listening to The Sweetest Hour only fuels the immense urge to catch this band live with hopes to hear in person, what they were trying to capture in the studio. Blackwood is on the edge of something big." From George O'Brien: "The Sweetest Hour is a first rate CD." Check out the artist's website: http://www.blackwoodband.com Track List: 1. Fig for a Kiss 2.
