Bodil Ashkenazy released her debut CD "C'est extra !" in October 2005 with the truly wonderful French chansons. She used to work with the EU Commission in Brussels as a simultaneous interpreter and discovered the FANTASTIC Belgian singer-songwriter JACQUES BREL. She decided to show Denmark more of him and has given concerts on and off in Denmark with French songs for about 10 years. As she also listened to other French songs, she discovered the mad passion of LÉO FERRÉ - and he is certainly something else - the title song of the album "C'est extra !" is his song which was a big hit in France years ago. It was written about "Nights in White Satin" with the Moody Blues. The text is very cryptic, very sensual. BARBARA is another all-time favourite that Bodil feels very close to and is extremely passionate about. Her quiet song "Gottingen" is on the album and is all about peace France-Germany. Etc. The French repertoire is huge - and wonderful. Everything comes down to French songs in some way - even My Way is really French (its French title: "As Usual"!) ...

Bodil has taken private singing lessons over the years, started to play the guitar when she was 11 and her father used to play and sing Swedish folk songs in the home.

Bodil also sings Joan Baez, Patsy Cline, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Liza Minnelli, Barbra Streisand, the wonderful Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen (Hallelujah being a special beautiful favourite), folk songs in general, Swedish ones too (Evert Taube for one), Carl Nielsen, etc. - In short: good songs, wherever they come from. She hopes to be able to release more albums, in English, Danish, Swedish ... She also writes her own songs.
